the midfield is FAR more of a problem than the defence

the defence looks bad because they are so exposed by teh midfield, which is unable to keep the ball. As always with the formation we are stuck with HUcks we are outnumbered in midfield. In thsi division we could probably get away with that if the 3 midfielders were good but they aren't. The biggest problem was that no-one in midfield wanted the ball so the defenders were left HAVING to hoof it all the time - and of course it kept coming back. It was screaming out for a Safri (or even a Mulryne), someone who could put their foot on the ball and slow the game down - especially when we were ahead. For all Worthy's talk of a "wealth" of midfield talent we started the season with a central midfield consisting of a defender (who looked like one) and someone we apparently bought because he shouts a lot (early days, I know, but on the evidence of saturday he can't do much else). To me it looks like Safri's fitness is as crucial to out chances as Ashton's - in this team he is irreplaceable.
