Yes, it was a little convenient that the creature showed up at that point, and in remarkably good shape considering what'd just hit it, but after all it was a Monster Movie and they'd been (IMHO) rather clever in showing the damn thing rather little. You'd barely seen the f**ker in full before that bit.
