He was just known as 'Jimmy' before he came to England.

I think he wanted 'Jimmy' on the back of his shirt but the FA insisted on 'Hasselbaink' - they dropped their hard-line stance when Stelios Giannakopoulos joined Bolton though.

I remember seeing 'Jimmy' listed at some club or other in World Soccer in the mid-90s and thinking it was pretty odd - this was in the days before Brazilian strikers like Fred, Jo and Gareth, of course.
