I'd have agreed with you, until I saw him play for Real Madrid.

When he was absolutely immense. His off-the-ball movement and passing were superb, as was his drive to re-establish himself in the team and win every match he played in.

Given that at that point, he had won almost everything possible at club level and had made his millions, he could have been forgiven for just giving up, but his determination - and talent - was hugely impressive.
