that if we were going to play Hucks plus two strikers we'd be better off with two defensive players in central midfield so Francis (whose strength is going forward) wasn't really worth fighting to hang onto. It could be argued that the moment we started playing with Hucks plus 2 strikers last year Francis became less important (and his performances gradually dropped accordingly as his duties became more defensive which isn't really his game), especially when Bentley came back.Also the fact that he got a few goals last season raised his profile and meant that we were able to get more than his real value in fees and he was worth cashing in (we'd never be offered as much again).
