It's possible, although a bit strange

If we really were monted, why spend the whole summer shopping in the usual bargain basement?

fwiw, if we are anywhere near getting Ameobi, then my guess would be that Roeder was given a budget this summer of say ?2m - ie a bit more than we're used to, but nothing Cullum-style (or Cullum-related).

He might then have decided that he basically wanted to splash it all on Ameobi, 'cos he thinks the gamble's worth it. So he filled all the other gaps for next to nothing.

Would indeed be a gamble. Ameobi's hip turns out to be knacked for good = another season spunked away.

(More likely than all of this, however, is that we have a few hundred thousand to spend max, and someone like Iverson is on his way....)
