it is a Mel Smith late 80's comedy reference

there was one scene in said show when Colin (Mel) was in bed but thought he heard someone at the window/French doors

iirc he spent spent a while convincing himself not to be so stupid that it's just his imagination and that there really isn't anybody there

he finally plucks up the courage to fling open the curtains, when he does he's confronted by some strange bloke staring in at him, this causes Colin to faint with shock.

Scene ends, cut to Colin somewhere else later on the same day doing something else entirely.

the intruder is never explained, his reason for being there and what happens to Colin immediately after fainting is never explained, in fact i don't think Colin ever mentions the incident to anyone else, ever.
