No you can use server controls

I don't mean a complex website but a complex web application - one which is scaleable, extensible and perhaps requires extra / intra and internet along with some reporting / import tasks / integration with 3rd party apps and is mission critical.

Good architecture (especially with systems build on a core system) improves stability and makes maintenance much more efficient.
