If 500 runs isn't enough to guarantee the draw is the worst result you can get then you've got problems as a team.

That's one of my few criticisms of MV as a captain, his declarations are always overly careful.
Go for it man, if SA bat through and get 550 or so then fine, we draw.
If you can get them for 400 in 4/5 sessions, that gives you over a hundred lead, bat for 2.5/3 sessions then have a real go at them.
