Squad sizes etc
Found this info on the web -
Aston Villa won the 42-game Football League Championship in 1981 using only 14 players.
I am sure the number of players used by teams in those days in general was a lot less than it is now.
They played more games then, how many pitches had undersoil heating? training methods are supposedly better now.
How many subs were permitted in the late 70's - mid 80's?
Does anyone know when the law was changed to allow 3 subs, I can't find the info?
Yet now, you can't cope with a small squad, players seem to get injured more now than they did then and not only that players get burnt out when you hardly heard that term back then. Yet we are now meant to have better training, medical and fitness knowledge than ever before.
So whats happened? Whats gorn on?
