See, they told the Insurers that they had to pay ?553 for the emergency roofing work 'cos they'd already done it. That figure, I believe, was calced on the basis of ?500 (max emerg pay out) + ?50 (my excess) + ?3 (authenticity).

Thing is, they hadn't done it, and I happened to be in when their appointed roofer showed up. I grasped him before he could start work, and found out he was only getting ?40 for the job - it was after all just a case of straightening up a few tiles. When he heard what'd happened he was away up the drive like greased weasel s**t, advising me over his shoulder to just gaffer tape up the felt in my attic.

that's not the worst of it, tho.........
