How about this......

If you are an agent looking to sell your player, you put the word out. Inevitably your first port of call is to link your player with a club that has previously passed comment, thus creating interest.

Then you get a party who are interested, but trying their luck as they know that chances are their bid will be rejected or the player will turn down the move.

Another club comes in, with more money and makes an offer that the agent/selling club likes. The player goes for talks and in the mean time the original bidder finds the extra dollar and thus leaves it to the player to decide.

Finally, the decision. The player/agent decide what they feel is best. The money is exchanged and the player becomes property of the new club.

We see this happen week in, week out. Why is everyone so surprised when it happens on a larger scale as that is exactly what this appears to be to me.

Delia: Ooh ooh, Investment is good. Whoopsie, me and my mouth.

Peter Cullum: I will give you ?20m

Delia: I dont think so chappy, try ?56m

Mr X: I will give you ?56m

Peter Cullum: Grrr, I will give you ?60m then.

Delia: Leave it with me, im off for a drink and a think.

Ring Ring

"Hello, Mr Cullum this is Delia Smith I'd like to accept your offer"
