Hughes ready with Ched lift

MARK HUGHES is ready to give another big helping hand to Welsh football... by letting Cardiff City land new international hotshot Ched Evans for the new season.

Bluebirds boss Dave Jones has pinpointed 19-year-old Evans as one of his main priorities as he shakes up his strikers at Ninian Park.

The Manchester City teenager saw his stock rise even further when he scored for Wales on his debut against Iceland last month.

Evans, who spent last season on loan to Norwich, is wanted by as many as 12 Championship clubs.

Cardiff have been involved in talks with Hughes and are optimistic about landing their man... whether through a big transfer fee or on loan for the 2008-09 campaign.

Evans is one of a number of strikers Jones covets as he looks for the cutting edge his team needs to clinch promotion to the Premiership.

City have at least two other leading targets they are chasing, while they have offered Robbie Fowler reduced pay-as-you-play terms.

Sources in Manchester insist Evans is on his way to the Bluebirds, but Cardiff are remaining tight-lipped about who their targets are.

We are making significant progress in talks with clubs and the players we want, was the only thing Cardiff chairman Peter Ridsdale would say.

Everything possible is being done to bring the players Dave Jones wants to Cardiff City.

Newly-appointed Manchester City manager Hughes believes Evans will make an impact at the Premiership club in time.

But he is happy to let him go out on loan to the right club in order to further his football education.

Hughes accepts the Bluebirds play football the right way and is prepared to let Evans come to Ninian.

Evans, 19, has been a goal-scoring hit for Wales senior side and the under-21s, as well as Norwich in the Championship
