It's just a classic 'continental' style badge.
Never really saw anything sinister in it - just entirely characterless. Good friend of mine is a Fulham fan and he felt it represented the way his club is now this plastic soul-less entity quite well.
If you stare closely at Man Utd's badge for a while, though, eventually you start to see Rupert Murdoch dressed in a Nazi uniform, dancing in a shower of blood-stained ?50 notes.
