the UEFA statement was a bit odd

because I don't think the Italians made that big a deal of it (suspect they knew they'd got what they deserved from the game).

I'm assuming UEFA made the statement because they were fed up answering a billion questions about the decision from the media and thought that a definitive official statement would put a stop to it?
