What do you call heavy? I've got emails archived back to 2003 in Outlook 2007
and it works just fine. I'm no big fan of Outlook, but it's doing the job here.
Are you using it for MAPI or POP3? If you're only using for POP3 then Thunderbird will beat it into a cocked hat - and will import everything (mmail, address books) for you as well.
If you're using MAPI and having problems with "heavy" archiving, then the problem isn't Outlook, it's the server (likely to be Exchange).
