As someone said below - he wanted to be the captain - 'Mr Chelsea' - who won them their first European Cup. (Drogba might have taken an earlier one though.)

Re Terry taking it - was either a captain doing his job and standing up to be counted, or a Billy-Big-Bollox looking for glory, depending on your point of view, really.
