They had been niggling away at each other all night

Wasn't a proper strike, no force in it. If it had been to Ronaldo or Tevez (or if someone had done to Drogba!) they would have hurled themselves to the floor, rolled around, screamed in agony, called for a stretcher, oxygen etc. Vidic took no notice of it at all, respect to him.
