Middle of the desert and (tabloid stylee) "Army Top Brass" underestimated the resoursefullness of Tommy Atkins as alcohol was obtained and consumed in astonishing quanities. After England squeaked through with Beckhams defining moment 7000 troops were in various states of extreme intoxication not helped much by mental temperatures in desert. The scene that unfolded before my eyes could only be reproduced by Francis Ford Coppola and a record breaking hollywood budget. The casualties in the fights exceeded 150 and the amount of missiles directed at H from steps was the pre-cursor to George W Bush's later Baghdad "Shock & Awe" campaign.
