my TV gets firmware updates too

apparantly they send them out with the tv pictures...

anyway that doesn't mean the PS3 is actually futureproof because it still might be the case that your average consumer doesn't see the need to upgrade from DVD to 'superDVD' like what happened with Super Audio CD and DVD Audio
