Some mates of mine were also disappointed by Berlin for a staggy; but you have to know where to go.

That said, when we were last there (& most of us are Berlin vets), The usually reliable Prenzlauerberg was a bit dead on the Saturday night - seems to be too many bars there nowadays. We happen to be staying right near Friedrichshein this time round & I hear that's where it's all happening these days.
