Only because

1. The government does not pay enough for key public sector jobs such as nurses etc. If they did then Vritish people would be biting your hand off to do these jobs; and

2. Every f**ker now has their head filled with the notion they should go to university and get a degree is something useless regardless of whether or not they are intellectually disposed and subsequently turn their nose up at what are decent jobs. In the past if someone wasn't intellectual but had other particular skills they were encouraged to learn a trade/skill that they were suited to. Sadly that doesn't seem to happen any more.
