There is a race issue in the BBC in general...

...in that, at presenter or management level, you get far more white people than demography might indicate.

However, that doesn't mean that a given presenter or manager is necessarily right for a given role just because s/he is not white. That would be absurd.

Ian Wright is a talented presenter who does his own style of show very well. MOTD is not, however, his style of show and he's never really fitted in with the others. He was right to step back, and I don't think he himself has cited race as a factor in that decision.

It's a bit like saying the Lib Dems got rid of Menzies Campbell for being old. They didn't. They got rid of him for being s**t.

Follow the logic in this article to its natural conclusion and you can only ever fire white middle class heterosexual able bodied men, because everyone else must be good at their job.

There is racism in society and it's right to point it out and stamp it out when it occurs. But to look for a racial angle every single time something happens to someone who happens not to be white merely plays into the hands of the racists.

(Rant over. Off to google Jessica Alba's arse now).
