Sorry to hear that Andy.
However, I would look at it like, okay, your father met someone very quickly and that may or may not have felt awkward at the time but he has been with her for a long time. He hasn't remarried immediately, or hastily, and he has built a relationship that he feels will last. Elaine may well have been there for him when he needed her the most and a friendship and love has built around that.
