I listened to him during the last home match for a while...

whilst actually at the match, only for about 10 minutes or so but he was absolutely spot on for those 10 minutes, kept up with play brilliantly and called things exactly as I saw them. I think the quality of his commentary is not in doubt, it's his interviews that people dislike because he doesn't ask probing or difficult questions.
