Worthy is quoted on the reason for leaving Hughes out altogether is that he's a bit tired after a hard week's training, so it wouldn't be that much of a stretch to think Shacks is being treated carefully after his difficult summer.

If Shackell doesn't start next Saturday for any reason other than injury, I will be extremely unhappy. He, above ANY of our defenders looked the most at home in the Prem, of the games I saw, so not to build this years back four around him would be tactical suicide.
