I cannot believe what I have just seen

I've always rather liked Gary Megson - both for the part he played in our golden era, as well as his achievements in management since he left us (where, given the place was in total mutiny, he never had a chance in the first place). I know he was a disaster at Forest: but I felt his heart was still at West Brom during that spell, and that the Baggies are now in a position whereby they could well establish themselves in the Prem should they go up owes a huge amount to Gary.

I've also been generally impressed with how he's done at Bolton too... until tonight. This season, Bolton Wanderers - Bolton bloody Wanderers - have held one of the world's wealthiest clubs to a 2-2 draw in Munich, and incredibly, knocked out Atletico Madrid. At 1-1 after the first leg against Sporting Lisbon, they still had a real shot of going further too. So what does Megson do? He plays a f**king reserve team.

For f**k's sake. It's perfectly possible that Bolton will never play in Europe again - and what about their fans? How can they justify such an expense when their own manager insults them in such a way? I have never, ever seen the UEFA Cup treated like that: and I don't give a toss if they have a vital league game on Sunday, and a relegation battle to fight. Those fans wouldn't have been able to believe their side would play in Europe a few years back - yet when a supporter dreams of glory on the continent, sabotaging yourselves by choosing a second string tends not to figure particularly highly.

Now, I hope they go down. What they've done tonight is shameful and embarrassing. If football isn't about dreams, what on earth is left?
