I have read his blog below and whilst I agree with many of the anti-comments, I do feel slightly sorry for him. Whilst licking the sugar of nepotism off daddy's silver spoon could prove to be a sweet move (yeah, yeah, whatever) for him, if he wants to be a Journalist, he has to make a start somewhere. What he wrote was undoubtedly s**te, though. He'll probably improve.

When I started having a go, I received similar criticism. Some of it - with the benefit of hindsight - was warranted.

Most of the comments were of a jealous nature too and that is hardly surprising.

Further, I wouldn't say it is down to just nepotism that leads to people getting the opportunities to work in such positions. I did a placement with the Daily Telegraph last summer and that was because I managed to organise it through the former editor of the student newspaper I work on. I'm doing a placement with the BBC next month and that is down to the fact that I was put in contact with someone who works there. As my contact at the BBC told me: if you want a work experience placement, or even a job at somewhere like that, it's usually a question of "who you know".

Back to the degree...
