but how valid is it? Not having seen any of them play in real life I wouldn't dare to venture an opinion as to whether, for example, Pele was better than Maradonna, or Puskas, or Eusebio, for example. Watching on TV gives a very narrow view of what is going on - you can't see what is going on off the ball, who is making themselves available etc.
An example of the basic errors you can make was where, for instance, someone watching on the TV claimed that Holt played better at Fulham than Safri, or Ashton.
If people are going to make definitive statements on the quality of players that's fine, but let's be clear about what opinions are based on - whether it's TV, or highlights, or the dubious rantings of Waller.
