Basically...

You need a bittorrent piece of software (e.g. Azureus) and then download a torrent file from a host (sites include mininova, torrentspy, and a who host of private ones as well)

You need to read a few tutorials to tweak the software to get an optimum download speed, but it's not that difficult really.

Although - copyright does apply... films and music a no-go in my opinion...
