a mathematical view

first post for many a year, but felt i should offer my opinion on the play offs can we cant we debate. i have looked at 6th place after 30 games and end of season for the past 6 years and heres the deal...the good news is that indeed this is statistically the weakest race in the last 7 years, 6th only averaging at 1.5 pts per game. this compares to about 1.6 on average from all other years. I also looked at the projected points per game for the rest of the season by averaging the prev 6 yrs from game 30 to 46....i digress.

The top and bottom of it is that 6th will (according to the stats!!!) finish on either 69 or 70 points this season. Anything way above or below this would be a major blip and therefore is unlikely to happen.

This means that we need 32 more points at 2 per game to make it! Phew!!!! (the tricky part is getting them! but hey, draw away and win at home!!)
