Well you're right to an extent

but only in that supporters should take absolutely no bloody notice of what happens before the opening day.

These games ARE important to build match fitness and ONLY matches can do that. No matter how hard you train it is impossible to replicate the effects of playing in a match.

But I do wonder what managers can actually learn about their players. If Ryan Jarvis had a great pre-season he's hardly going to start, is he?

The results are irrelevant, the games are boring. Who really cares?
