Millwall cancel Iran friendly
From Millwall Official Shite:
Following information and intelligence received by the police, Millwall Football Club, the Metropolitan Police and the Iranian Football Federation have taken the difficult decision that in the interest of public safety the match between Millwall and the Iranian national side on 30th July will be called off.
The parties in question have issued the following joint statement:
"It is regrettable that we have had to take this decision, but based on the intelligence we received from a number of sources, we reached the conclusion that we have a joint moral responsibility not to compromise the safety of fans wishing to attend this game.
Unfortunately, it is clear that there are elements not associated with Millwall Football Club who are hell-bent on causing problems on Saturday, with the possibility of endangerment to innocent people including members of our local community.
The security services are already fully stretched at the moment, and whilst the police would have met the demands of policing this fixture, it is clearly irresponsible to add to their burden at this time."
