Interesting, maybe, but in my opinion, wrong.

I also saw Lewis a few times, and he never failed to impress me. Him having nothing to offer but height is a particularly unfair assessment.

If I were the kind of man interested in finding subtext, I'd suggest that Dennis had been scratching round to find a way to present the sale in the best possible light, and it ended up with the Dennis trademark "Ah, but I know better than you."

It was, IMO a very good bit of business, it doesn't need anyone suggesting that Lewis wasn't actually up to much to justify it.
