Check your power settings
when running on battery a laptop's power settings usually change your system resources to use less power.
Sorry I can't be too specific, I'm not that techy but had this problem a couple of years ago. It was either power settings I had to go into or the device manager, I had to change the specific power settings for my WiFi card/receiver. I'm assuming your not on a Mac btw.
