your kids leave home, you lose all those benefits and have taught your kids to live off benefits ?

We had some benefits when I was a kid but my parents always both worked and were embarrassed about the council house, etc, so I grew up knowing you should do all you can to ensure you don't fall into that situation. I pray it never happens to me. You might get "free money" but you have no freedom at all - when you're unemployed you are forced into jobs you hate, and you'll never have the financial freedom for holidays, etc. Most benefits depend on savings so you can't even save up for anything remotely expensive (e.g. decent car, etc)
