...they should forget about exploiting any sort of resource and leave it as it is-natural wilderness and all that.

Mind you, the Americans have got a base at the South Pole which they won't let anyone come anywhere near, guarded and heavily protected-quite how they decided the South Pole was "theirs" I have no idea.
