unelectable.
Labour had been driven to the left in the 60's by the inability of the old conservative party to acknowledge that the pre-war days of the Empire were over. The electorate needed something new and Wilsons Labour seemed to be it- it was for a while. However, it soon became apparent that "socialism" wasn't going to work here but by that time the unions had become all powerful and the governments answer to the economic problems of the time was state subsidy. This combination was a disaster, hence the headlong rush for yet more "new" ideas and the introduction of Maggie.
She saw that the ushering of a new industrial era required drastic surgery but she went about it in a compltely brutal and un-compassionate manner because she was a brutal, un-compassionate, egotistical, arrogant b***h. Labour had to re-invent itaelf as soft conservatives to get re-elected, hence Blair.
Politics is now so dull and grey that there is no difference between any of the parties.
