Thoughts on Saturday

Just so we all remember, although it was a fab win on Saturday, and we played some great stuff in the first half, and with buckets of passion and commitment in the second, we got very very lucky. Yes, we could have been two up at half time and it may well have been a breeze in the second half, but we weren’t, and it wasn’t.

If we defend like that in the last ten minutes with a one goal lead, we’ll end up drawing or even losing many more games than we win. I lost count of how many times Croft ended up in front of the ball when they had possession, we often had no-one at left midfield and I’m not quite sure what the formation was meant to be. The ball was often hoofed aimlessly and we gave away possession cheaply in the middle of the pitch. The back four seemed to be moving so far back, I’m surprised the stewards in the Barclay did not start telling then to sit down.

A few cooler heads on the pitch, in an admittedly difficult situation have made my life a great deal more comfortable on Saturday. If that goal had been allowed there would have been a great deal more comment about how we really played in the last fifteen minutes.

We need to play a great deal smarter in situations such as those on Saturday afternoon otherwise it will cost us dearly.
