Wattage given on most vacuum's is down to the power fo the motor I think..

Because the Dyson is so radically different in design it's power rating would be pointless, because, for instance, a Dyson with a 1000w motor would probably have more suction power than an equivalent 2000w bagged model from another manufacturer (I think).
