Just wanted to add my piece to this sad news
"Budgie" as John Bond called him was one of the best payers we ever had here and in addition to his passing skills, his shooting ability and his all round footballing ability, he also had a very good long throw in which was a useful addition to the mix.
Those of us who saw it will never forget his hat trick at Highbury in the League Cup, but for me it was his free kick ability that will linger. Of the 37 goals he scored, I'd bet that at least half came from free kicks. Further down the board I saw a Youtube film of him against Liverpool in 1977. Passing, tackling and a brilliant back heel to set up Colin Suggett for the first goal are most noteworthy as well as Martin Petersvolley for the second and even Colin Suggett tackling like a dervish. Even f**king Roger Gibbins looked good compared to our current lot.
Just imagine, beating Liverpool and nobody being a bit surprised!
RIP Budgie. And thanks for everything.
