TBF: The more I think about this appointment, the more I like it

Like you, I was despondent this morning upon hearing who it was. Glenn Roeder; to me, he was the man who had failed to get Newcastle ticking, despite big sums of money. He was the man who had relegated West Ham with probably a side consisting of a quarter of the current England squad.

But then I thought about our predicament; we are, as you say, completely in the s**t. But how many teams has he gotten out of it? To all of his teams without exception he has given confidence, stability, organisation and has been a guiding light. We need that more than anything right now. If he came in and did that with us and then left straight after, his appointment would be worth it.

Would Martin Allen have done that? I have no idea. He's never taken over a side in as much do-do as we are. Going by the records, Roeder - a man experienced in our situation - is a far more sensible appointment than Allen.

Beyond the entire Jewell v Allen v Roeder stuff, something else which excites me about Roeder is the sheer speed in which he is going about things. Roeder knows exactly what to do and is going about doing it in a way that really highlights Roeder's influence in the game. It looks like he could do before Sunday what Grant couldn't do in months. This is exactly what we need; a do-er to coin a phrase. Someone capable of seeing what's needed to be done and doing it.

Martin Allen simply left too many question marks by the looks of it. His failure at the final hurdle looked down to a simple lack of experience in the situation our club finds it.

It all boils down to a simple question; who is more likely to drag this club out of this mess? Assuming Jewell turned us down, we're left with Roeder and Allen. Apply that question with some logic and only one answer can prevail.
