It could be that your file system is corrupted and is reporting dodgy file sizes

Didn't you lose your FireFox bookmarks the other day? What version of Windows are you running? You can probably get it to run a disk check on your next boot by selecting the disk properties. You could try copying it to another drive (check the file size), deleting it and then copying it back from the backup.
