This is one of the best suggestions I've heard yet.
Feasibly within our reach, played with some good players and managers, seems a decent bloke and - as you suggest - would be a good leader for lots of Scottish people.
And actually, I wouldn't be against Himmers' choice of Nigel Clough either.
What do people make of Brian Laws? He's under pressure with Sheffield Wednesday but did well there, and at Scunthorpe IIRC. Delia would cook lots of good chicken for him to lob about, too.
