No disrespect to Crook, but if we end up appointing him...
....it'll be no different to Grant, just he'll most probably be a little less harsh. But I fear if he comes in that we'll still be around the same position as we are now in about 6-7months time
All this talk of him, Phelan, and any other former player is NOT what we want right now.
I may be wide of the mark but has Crook done anything but manage/asst manage in Australia? Hardly the best of leagues and wouldn't fill me with any confidence if he took over, especially in the current situation.
Phelan - To be honest I have NO idea what he's been doing or where he has been the past few years. If he's been a manager then it's news to me - and if he has been then I've never seen him interviewed anywhere on anything, and if he's just coached then again he's done nothing more than Grant, so again would be a weak appointment given the situation right now.
If it's not Jewell, which by the look of all the Bolton speculation, it won't be, cos Sammy Lee never filled me with confidence as a manager from day one, and nothing has changed my mind on that yet. 2 weeks time and Jewell will be in there most probably.
This leaves us most likely with Newell, Allen, Royle or some other currently unemployed manager. I cannot see us forking out unnecessary cash on any kind of compensation at present and therefore rule out any appointment of anyone currently in a managers job.
I don't see us, and wouldn't want to see us, go for either Ince or Wise - Again completely unproven at this level as managers.
From the main three mentioned above, if we DONT get Jewell then I would probably prefer Allen right now.
From his past record he will get the team going and get the most out of the current players. Personally I thought he was buying in decent players at Leicester before leaving because of the Mandaric issues and I think that, given the rest of the season, would probably buy some decent short term players in the January transfer window to get us out of our current situation and hopefully then turn it round for us over the following summer.
In an ideal world I want Jewell 100%, but Martin Allen would HAVE to be my 2nd choice right now based on the above.
