Midfield Optimism?

Not too worried about lack of right winger, as long as we have enough decent central mids. Hughes may fit the bill. My mind keeps going back to 1992-3, where Phillips, who certainly wasn't a winger in my book, played a significant part in that season playing opposite side to wherever Foxy went. If Hughes can get up and down the flank and do the simple things it might just work. Certainly everything we've heard about Hughes suggests he can at least do what Jonson did last year.

So, to use a movie analogy, casting the 2005 squad as their 1992 counterparts we see a squad starring
Dean Ashton as Chris Sutton
Darren Huckerby as Ruel Fox
Yousef Safri as Ian Crook
Andy Hughes as David Philips
Damian Francis as Jerry Goss
Jason Jarrett as Gary Megson
Leon McKenzie as Mark Robins

I'm still pretty worried about the lack of depth, but the first choices seem to measure up, and as for the must have a winger debate, I think we'll be fine.
