Its common for people to have contacts with part of it guaranteed and part of it as an option.

After all PG was unproven, its unlikely they would give him a straight 3.5 years with no get out clauses.

You dont think PG has some clauses in there also?
Most players and mangers have get out clauses which allow them to entertain offers from other clubs.
Earnie and Etuhu are not the only ones.
