Doncaster: Pay clauses hold off pressure
City's sound financial state puts them among the best placed of the 24 sides to mount a promotion challenge next season.
Doncaster said the policy of writing “relegation pay cuts” of between 20-50pc into the contracts of all the players, coaching staff and senior managers at the club had played a big part.
The situation is in stark contrast to neighbours Ipswich Town, who went into administration after being saddled with a number of £20,000 a week players after suffering relegation in 2001/2.
Doncaster said: “We are the only club with this policy. And, at least for the next two years because of the annual £6m parachute payments, we are on an even keel and under no pressure to sell any players.
“The manager actually has headroom. We do not have to sell players, but if Nigel Worthington chose to sell someone he would have more money for his budget.”
