A lot can be achieved by decent tactics though, as Greece showed in Euro 2004

they were probably the worst bunch of players in the competition but everybody did their job well in the team and they built from the back. Tactics are a lot more involved than just the formation though - last night all these tactics were wrong:

Formations
Defensive style of play
No Subs made in 2nd half
Everyone needs to be super fit to play 4-5-1 - some clearly weren't.
