The error you're making is that

Grant is clearly stating that he was about to throw on the big guns when Charlton scored. Thus, they would have had a full FIVE minutes to make an impact. Thus, they weren't in the game for only EIGHTY FIVE minutes. Those last FIVE minutes would surely have given us enough time to reshape the formation, get a few hoofs up to the front two and bang in a good two or three.
